Over the years my experience in feature films and television has merged with the evolution of the feature doc. Thanks to digital innovations more docs are being released in cinema and on DVD. Documentaries are increasingly adopting entertainment values and fictional narrative techniques, just as drama features are flirting with documentary values.

The clips I’ve chosen are from films made primarily for theatrical release.

The advantage these films have over drama is that their credibility is already spoken for. The main challenge though is to provide a narrative that’s layered with as much metaphor and subtext as that of a drama and that they have a dramatic structure that holds up for the required duration, approx. 90min.
